LOTS 2726-2727
PRIVATE AMERICAN COLLECTION
Dr. Norman Lowe became acquainted with Zhang Daqian through artist Wang Jiyuan (Wang Chi Yuan). The two artists were close friends and held a joint exhibit of their works in 1971 at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C. Dr. Lowe enrolled in Wang Chi Yuan's School of Chinese Brushwork whilst engaged in the practice of medicine at Cornell University - The New York Hospital. In later years he served on the board of the School of Chinese Brushwork. For many years Dr. Lowe was a very close personal friend of Wang Jiyuan and as such he came to know Zhang Daqian, and recalls enjoying dinner with the two artists in New York's Chinatown on several occasions.
