Lot Essay

The Muse historique de Lausanne owns the preparatory sketch for this miniature with only the face finished and inscription 'bauche sans valeur' (exhibition 100 ans de miniatures suisses 1780-1880, Lausanne, Muse historique, 1999-2000, no. 207).
Marie Jomini (1824-1893), wife of Auguste d'Albnas, was the daughter of Franois Jomini (see lot 164) and the niece of the famous General Jomini from Payerne. A miniature by Piccard depicting the General Jomini is mentioned in J.-C. Genoud's preface to 100 ans de miniatures suisses 1780-1880, Geneva 1999, p. 8.
