Sold with a photo-certificate from Mr. Julien Valtat, dated Fait à Choisel, le 6 mars 2009, and is registered under no.2078.
This work will be included in the catalogue de l'oeuvre de Louis Valtat being prepared by Les Amis de Louis Valtat.
Vases filled with bright, colourful flowers, such as Roses dans un vase of 1929, were one of Louis Valtat's favourite motifs. Valtat felt the subject permitted him the greatest liberty in composition and expressive colour associations, allowing him to prioritize the surface of the work in a manner that lead to his association with the Fauves. Roses dans un vase shows the mature development of Valtat's post-impressionist style, its highly structured and stylized attention to form revealing the influence of Vincent Van Gogh on his handling of paint.
