MARCASSIN
Established in 1985 by winemaker Helen Turley and her husband, viticulturalist John Wetlaufer, Marcassin is regarded as one of the finest Burgundian-style wines produced domestically. Grapes are sourced from the Marcassin vineyard, 240 acres situated at 1200 feet near the Pacific Ocean in Sonoma, and two adjacent sites owned by Martinelli – Blue Slide Ridge and Three Sisters. Turley and Wetlaufer produce 2500 to 3000 cases per year, of which nearly two thirds of the production is Pinot Noir. Using natural yeast, on-lees ageing and nearly five years of total ageing before release, the entire production is sold to the mailing list and demand is so high that there are as many as 5000 names on the waiting list.
