A rare work compiled for Barbara, Duchess of Saxony, Landgräfin of Dorringen and Margräfin of Meissen, by the General of the Dominicans at St. Paul's Monastery, Leipzig. The Master HS+, whose monogram appears on the woodcut on the verso of Aa5, was a draughtsman and copyist active in Leipzig and Augsburg from 1513-1530: he has been identified with the Augsburg printer, Heinrich Steyner (cf. Thieme-Becker, XXXIV, 504). Only two copies of this book have been sold at auction in England since records began (at Sotheby's, 22 June 1920, from the library of Henry Huth, ¨31 to Edwards; and at Sotheby's, 29 May 1930, from the library of Arthur Kay, ¨29 to Maggs). We have no record of any copies sold in Germany. Not in BL STC German; Adams; Fairfax-Murray German; or Caillet.
