Lot Essay

This tapestry is based on the 1936 painting La nature à l'aurore by Max Ernst (Spies, Werke 1929-1938, no. 2269; Private collection). It was a collaborative work woven by Yvette Cauquil-Prince under the supervision of Max Ernst.
