FROM THE COLLECTION OF ELLEN BRAILSFORD ELLIOTT (LOTS 20-22)Ellen Brailsford Elliott (1902-1990) was inspired to begin collecting Chinese paintings by her son, John, who was a classmate at Princeton University of Professor Wen Fong, who guided him in his initial purchases. Mrs. Elliott moved to Princeton in 1959 and took classes from Professor Fong after his transition from student to faculty and studied intensively as a university museum docent. She visited China in 1980 and 1983 to personally better understand the country and its culture. Many items from Mrs. Elliott’s collection were donated to the Princeton Art Museum, which published her collection in 1984 in the exhibition catalogue Images of the Mind.
