This was the last torch to carry Australia's 1956 Olympic flame. Relays of runners carried the torch from Smithton to Mt.Olympus, in the western highlands of Western Tasmania. On Sunday 14 December a crowd of 4000 people saw Shirley Strickland extinguish Australia's last flame with this torch, to the strains of 'Waltzing Matilda'
