MILITARY UNIFORMS -- VERNET, Pierre. Galerie Militaire, ou collection complete des uniformes de la garde impériale russe. [Voennaia Galereia, ili polnaia kollektsiia uniform Rossiiskoi Imperskoi Gvardii.] St. Petersburg: Ulric Steinbach, 1840-1842.

63 hand-coloured lithographs (c.310 x c.265mm), printed captions, and 2 lithographed dedications, trimmed and pasted in a 2° album (463 x 355mm). Some captions, table of contents, and general title supplied in manuscript. (A few plates with some pigment oxidized.) Contemporary green half morocco, spine with raised bands gilt in compartments, the top compartment with bands of white, orange and black morocco onlays (extremities rubbed). Provenance: A. Balsan (engraved bookplate).

ONE OF THE RAREST SERIES OF RUSSIAN MILITARY UNIFORMS; an apparently complete album. Issued bi-monthly over the course of two years, complete sets are of great rarity. This collection comprises 63 plates -- 5 more than mentioned in any of the bibliographies consulted. All of the principal regiments of the Imperial Guard are represented, including: the Preobrazhenskii, Semenovksii, Izmailovskii, the various Cossack regiments and others. Apparently not in Obol'ianinov or Zaionchkovskii. Lipperheide Qo 11 (lacking 48 plates); Lyons 1 (calling for 58 plates only).
