Lot Essay

Hopkinson's sixth but, in fact, the seventh printing of the rules after those of the Perth Golfing Society. 'The Musselburgh Rules are important', he remarks, 'as they differ in some respects from those then generally observed.' They are preceded by 'Notices respecting the Game of Golf' and a list of the club's founding members in 1774. Clapcott pp. 63-64; Hopkinson p. 27 (6).
