Named after a biblical hunter, H.M.S. Nimrod was a 20-gun sloop built at Deptford and launched in 1828. Originally laid down as the sixth rate H.M.S. Andromeda. she was engaged on the East India and China Station from 1839-1941 and was present at the First Opium War (Anglo-Chinese War). after which she was put onto anti-slavery patrol off the coast of Africa. Becoming a coal hulk in 1860 at Devonport dockyard, Plymouth, she was broken up in 1907.
