Lot Essay

Noted throughout Lloyd's Registers of Shipping as a snow rather than a true brig, the John & Richard, 246 tons, was built at Hartlepool in 1852. First owned by Lightfoot and commanded by Captain M. Butler from new, she traded to various destinations, mostly either the Baltic or the Mediterranean, although by 1860, after a change of ownership, she was sailing out of Falmouth to the West Indies prior to disappearing from record soon afterwards.
