INDENTThe Abroath Tribute Medal was awarded with, the Freedom of the Burgh, to all Abroath men who had volunteered for service in South Africa. At a special ceremony, 24th August, 1901, each volunteer present received a "Burgess ticket" and the tribute medal; an extract from the Burgess Book, 1901-03, gives the names of 34 recipients of the award.

The Dundee Tribute Medal, together with the Freedom of the City, was presented by the Corporation of Dundee to all members of the local Volunteer Forces who had served in South Africa
