Lot Essay

Norman Wilkinson was Marine Painter to the Royal Yacht Squadron and an advisor on camouflage to the Air Ministry from 1938 to 1942. He was the originator of 'Dazzle Painting', adopted by all the allied nations in the First World War, for the protection of merchant vessels against submarine attack.
