A YAOZHOU CELADON INCISED 'LOTUS' BOWL
CHINESE CELADONS FROM THE SONG TO MING DYNASTIES (LOTS 21-39)Both Yaozhou and Longquan wares are highly esteemed Chinese celadons. Influenced by the Yue wares from the mid-Tang and Five Dynasties, especially Mise wares, the production of Yaozhou wares in the north developed and expanded, reaching its peak during the Song dynasty, characterised by the sharp and crisp carving, and fine moulding of the decoration. The Longquan wares in the south were also influenced by Yue wares, their production active from the Three Kingdoms period and Jin dynasty, achieving popularity and recognition in the Southern Song dynasty for the lustrous and diverse shades of their glazes.Lots 21-39 comprise a selection of Yaozhou and Longquan celadon wares, as well as a rubbing of a documentary stele about the Yaozhou kilns, providing a comprehensive overview of Chinese celadon art from the Song to Ming dynasties.
