Oliver, together with his father George (see lot 68) and his brother Vincent were a Birmingham family of fruit and flower painters, whose work was usually painted on a small scale in the style of William Henry Hunt (see lot 65). Oliver, considered by many to be the finest painter of his family, exhibited one picture at the Royal Academy in 1883 and two at the Royal Society of British Artists.
