Lot Essay

With Omega international warranty dated 30 May 2015 and fitted presentation box.

Thanks to its use by early astronauts and the successful passing of rigorous tests performed by NASA to become qualified for all missions, the Omega Speedmaster has become synonymous with space flight. It therefore comes to no surprise that the Speedmaster was there when astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first men to walk on the Moon in 1969.

To honor this extraordinary accomplishment and the Apollo XI mission, Omega developed a limited edition 18k gold Speedmaster with wine red bezel and special engraving. A total of 1,014 examples were made, including 28 given to astronauts with personalized engravings. This limited edition is inscribed 'Omega Speedmaster - Apollo XI 1969, The First Watch Worn on the Moon, 537'.
