Lot Essay

Ono Kotaro, born in Brazil, lives in Takikawa, Hokkaido where he has taught ceramics at the Takikawa Ceramic Center since 1989. Among numerous honors accorded his work are Mitsukoshi awards in 1980 and 1983, the Creative Sake Cup Exhibition grand prize in 2000 and the Hamada Shoji prize in 2002 and 2003. His work has been exhibited in the Hokkaido Modern Art Museum, Sapporo, Japan, 1984-86, the Hokkaido Asahikawa Museum in 1990, the Asahi Modern Craft Exhibition in 1999 and the Exhibition of Modern Ceramics for the Tea Ceremony, Toki, in which he won the Gold Prize in 1995 and the Grand Prize in 2000. He won a special judges prize at the 5th Mashiko Ceramic Competition in 2004.
