Holtzapffel, Vol 1-5 including 1894 Vol 3, half-leather with original cloth covers tipped into end-papers, bookplate of Sir David Salomons; Bazley, Notes on the Epicycloidal Cutting Frame, half-calf, with bookplate (different to the preceding) of Sir David Salomons; and a uniform volume of manuscript Holtzapffel notes with diagrams on the epicycloidal cutting frame, the compensating index for division of the ellipse, and the shaping and wheel-cutting machine (7)
Provenance
Sir David Salomons (1st Baronet) and his nephew (2nd Baronet) of the same name successively owned Holtzapffel lathe No. 2021, now in the Whipple Museum at Cambridge. The Salomon's house, Broomhill Park near Tunbridge Wells, was famous as one of the first houses lit by electricity, and the second Sir David organised, in 1895, the first British motor show, in Tunbridge Wells.
