Lot Essay

With Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin and Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with white dial and Roman numerals in 2004 and its subsequent sale on 15 January 2004. Furthermore delivered with solid 18K white gold snap on back no. 4'246'083, white gold and wooden setting pin, spare Patek Philippe black leather bracelet, original burgundy leather presentation box with winding facility and outer packaging.

This watch has never been offered in public before and is in close to new overall condition. It is furthermore believed to be only the second example of a reference 3940 in white gold with white dial and Roman numerals to appear at auction to date.

Reference 3940 was launched in 1985, the white gold model was in production until 2006. The models were available in yellow, pink and white gold and platinum, the majority with silvered dials and applied baton numerals. Reference 3940 is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, second edition, pp. 292-293.
