With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch in 1889 and its subsequent sale on July 7th of the following year.

This watch was made for J. E. Booge (1833-1911) and retailed by Sioux City, Iowa retailer Will H. Peck & Co. Booge is one of the most prominent figures in the history of Iowa City and was an important father of modern day Iowa. Born in Vermont, he arrived in Sioux City in 1858 when the small town had a population of less than 1000 people. His entrepreneurial spirit brought him to buy a seemingly worthless load of wet wheat destroyed by a steamboat mishap, in which he fed the wheat to a herd of hogs, fattened them up and then butchered them to sell to hungry Army soldier outposts on the frontier. This initial entrepreneurial act quickly evolved into a thriving meat-packing business as he exported pork all around the world. As Booge's business grew, so did Sioux City and by 1887, the population of the town was 30,000 and the newly minted city was one of America's largest meatpacking centers. Booge was one of the most prominent men in all of Sioux City and heavily promoted the growing town with banking and the development of the local railroad.
To celebrate his success, Booge commissioned this minute repeating split seconds watch from Patek Philippe. Like with watches made for James Ward Packard and Henry Graves, Jr., this watch featured a cuvette engraved with the recipient of the custom order. Furthermore, the cuvette is monogrammed with Booge's initials.
