Lot Essay

The present watercolour relates to a version in the Bristol City Art Gallery. We are grateful to Francis Greenacre for identifying the view. The Norman cathedral was started in 1210-20 and the medieval freestone work is of Dundry stone, similar to that of St Mary Redcliffe.
