Lot Essay

Portraits of the Shah, Nasir ad-Din (1831-1896), his son Muzaffar ad-Din (1853-1907), two other named sitters identified as "Iskunder Khan, Afghan" and "Chief of the Khasgais", the remainder mostly representative of "types" including Persian Jewesses, Armenian and Persian ladies, street vendors and three men with a chained lioness.
