The present Rolex is a customized reference 16700 "GMT" especially personalized in honor of General Chuck Yeager. In 1947, Chuck Yeager came to fame and became the first pilot, at the young age of 24 years old, to travel faster than sound while flying the experimental X-1 at Mach 1, at an altitude of 45,000 feet (13,700 m).
The Real McCoy's is a Japanese company, reproducing WWII American attires including flight jackets. In 1997, The Real McCoy's company modified approximately 200 Rolex GMT-Master's to commemorate the 50th anniversary of General Chuck Yeager breaking the sound barrier.
On the present limited edition, the name Chuck Yeager is inscribed in red on the dial and The Real McCoy's was printed in white. The case back was also personalized with engravings.
