FROM THE COLLECTION OF HUANG SIUFENG These modern paintings were collected by Huang Siufeng (1892-1975), who, from humble beginnings, rose to a prominent position in the Central Bank of China during the late 1930s to early '40s. Mr. Huang was responsible for the printing, storage, and distribution of the country's currency and therefore, during that time, his signature was printed on bank notes. In the late 1940s, Mr. Huang served as assistant comptroller of the International Monetary Fund in Washington D.C. Mr. Huang'swife, Huang Kwe Pau, was also accomplished and received a degree from Smith College, served as Dietician at the Peiping Union Medical College, and worked at the Y.W.C.A. Throughout his life, Huang Siufeng was a devoted collector of Chinese art and an active patron. He commissioned this painting by Huang Junbi directly from the artist. Mr. Huang passed his treasures on to his family, who have cherished them up to the present time.
