A gift to Coward from the writer Radclyffe Hall who lived in Rye when Coward was at Goldenhurst Farm, she also had a house in Kensington close to Coward's Belgravia home. Radclyffe Hall achieved notoriety with the publication in 1928 of her Sapphic novel The Well Of Loneliness.
