A large white marble figure (2m68) dated Northern Qi is in the Royal Ontario Museum, Canada and illustrated in Hai-Wai Yi-Chen, Chinese Art in Overseas Collections, Buddhist Sculpture I, pl.37 ; a smaller white marble figure (1m62) dated Sui is in the Saint Louis Art Museum (U.S.A.) and illustrated in Op.Cit, Buddhist Sculpture II, pl.74 ; another monumental white marble figure of Buddha is exhibited in the British Museum, London.
Large white marble figures are rare. The present head belonged to a monumental figure of probably three meters high. The exquisite quality of carving together with the great spiritualism and sensibility of the face makes this head of Buddha a masterpiece of the early Chinese sculpture
