Lot Essay

Following the present work's exhibition at the Minnesota State Art Society in 1906, Emma E. Beard wrote: "Decidedly, the most original composition from a Western artist was that of Richard Lorenz...It is a vivid picture of animal life and leaves a strong impression of the poetry and primeval wildness of the passing age of the prairie, now, like the buffaloes, becoming a mere memory." (International Studio, vol. XXVIII, March-June 1906, p. CXVII)
