4 volumes, 12° (163 x 96mm). First volume with 24-page preface to the second edition. (Some leaves rather spotted.) Contemporary speckled calf, gilt spines in compartments with red lettering pieces (rubbed, vol.I rebacked with modern morocco gilt, head of spine replaced with similar morocco, splits in hinges of vol.II-IV).
Loosely inserted is an autograph note signed by the author, n.p., 29 September 1747, 'Accept, dear Mr. Bennet, and honour with a place in your Collection, the accompanying Set of the poor Pamela: And you will very much oblige', one page (124 x 109mm), integral blank (slightly soiled, small tears in folds).
Fourth edition of vols.I & II, FIRST EDITION of vols.III & IV. Vols.I-II, published on 5 and 7 May 1741, collate as the first edition, except with the additional gathering in vol.I; the pagination errors on pp.16 & 295 in vol.I have been corrected. In vol.III the catchword on p.32 of has not been corrected, and in vol.IV p.4 is paginated, errors remain in the catchwords of pp.120, 324 & 426, but has been corrected on p.233.
