ROSSINI, Giaocchino (1792-1868). Autograph musical album leaf signed ('G. Rossini'), 'Passy de Paris', 30 October 1865, 'Un Rien Offert a Madame Bartholomew', Andantino, scored for harmonium, 9 bars on two staves, on one leaf, 175 x 268mm, mounted in an album, red morocco gilt.
One of the effortlessly well-turned album pieces of Rossini's old age, the 'Péchés de Vieillesse': a short sustained chordal sequence for harmonium. There may be a connection between the scoring for harmonium and the first version of the Petite Messe Solonelle (first given in a private house in 1863), scored for 12 solo voices, 2 pianos and a harmonium -- perhaps the dedicatee was the harmoniumist in a private performance.
