Two engraved seacharts of Japan and the Sea of Jezo by Lucini after Dudley, each 490 x 770mm. Titles set in decorative cartouches, a ship decorating the seas, various notes on wind directions and force, each sheet with a grid, the first at one degree intervals, the second at 5 degree, (very slight browning on the eastern sheet, and fold of western sheet discoloured), window mounts.
These two charts of Japan and the 'uncharted' regions of the Northern Pacific including the North Eastern coast of Asia, the straights of Jezo (Anian) and a small section of the North west coast of America, liberally decorated with wind information; the maps, however, show a profound absence of knowledge. The geography of Japan is based on the Ortelius/Teixeira model with additional information from Dutch charts. Lutz Japan 54 and 111. (2)
