On 15th June 1815 there was a ball at the Duke of Richmond's (see also lots 527 and 528 in this sale) in Brussels and Thomas Creevey recorded the following description of it: 'The Duke had been at the ball - had received his intelligence there, and had sent off his different orders. There had been plenty of officers at the ball, and some tender scenes had taken place upon the ladies parting with them'.
