長方形。硯面雕刻蘭亭景色，以曲水作墨池，下方平坦處作硯堂。硯側刻通景修褉圖，陰刻《蘭亭詩》詩句，四側分別為：
「肆眄岩岫，臨泉濯趾。感興魚鳥，安感幽峙。
莊浪濠津，巢步穎水。冥心真寄，千載同歸。
在昔暇日，味存林領。今我斯遊，神怡心靜。
丹崖竦立，葩藻映林。淥水揚波，載浮載沉。」
硯底平坦，滿刻《蘭亭序》。
硯石紫紅色。附木座、木蓋、日本木盒。

The Preface to the Poems Collected from the Orchid is a prose composed by the famed calligrapher Wang Xizhi in the year 353, which recorded the event when 42 literati convened to celebrate the year's Spring Purification Festival at the Orchid Pavilion near Shaoxing. Wang Xizhi's work, written in semi-cursive script, became the most venerated and widely copied calligraphy in China's history.
