Beauty under an Umbrella in the Snow, ca. 1766-67
Woodcut mitate-e (allusive picture) of the kabuki dance Sagi musume (Heron maiden) represented here as a young woman standing on high clogs in the snow under an umbrella gazing at a flowing stream within the frame of a wicker fence and willow tree--very good impression, robe enhanced with diamond-lattice gauffrage, gauffrage to umbrella and snow, good color, ink residue, especially at upper left edge, generally very good condition
chuban tate-e: 11 3/8 x 8½in. (28.9 x 21.6cm.)
