Lot Essay

Errol Flynn was the definitive swashbuckling action hero of the silver screen. This poster is for his most famous film, shot in glorious technicolour it has now become a timeless classic. The Warner Brothers' cinema in the West End of London opened in 1939 and this was the first film to be shown there, it also became the studio's biggest money spinner that year. This British poster is a richly coloured stone lithograph and is the only known copy to have survived.
