The lifeless body of the Mother of God on a bier, surrounded by the Apostles, St. Peter to the left swinging a censer, St. Paul kneeling at her feet, in the foreground a candelabrum and the narrative incident with the sacrilegious priest, behind the bier two angels with veiled hands flanking Christ, the latter holding the soul of his Mother in the form of an infant, the scene framed by two tall buildings, the open gates of Heaven depicted on the top of the composition
