Grisaille brush drawing on paper, the miniature after a European original with a finely drawn depiction of Joseph and Mary encountering Simeon the Righteous at the temple upon the presentation of the baby Jesus, in Joseph's hand a cage with a pair of sacrificial turtledoves, the miniature laid down between gold and polychrome rules on a minor pink border with gold illumination and a plain blue margin, verso with a later inscription, mounted, glazed and framed
