The Secret Garden, 1949, directed by Fred M.Wilcox, starred Margaret O'Brien, Herbert Marshall and Gladys Cooper. This adaptation of Frances Hodgson Burnett's novel had the same moral as The Bluebird and The Wizard of Oz, happiness in your own back yard. Margaret O'Brien, growing fast at twelve years old, retired for several years following this film.
