Shaped square, the sides chased with flowering branches and incorporating an engraved coat-of-arms at front in a navette cartouche, the pull-off covers with rose finials
5 1/8 in. (13.2 cm.) high; 3¼ in. (8.4 cm.) square

The arms are those of Ingoldsby of Lincolnshire with the later addition of the probably unrelated coronet and crest for Palmer, Baron Selborne. Sir Roundell Palmer, QC MP (1812-1895), was created a baron on his appointment as Lord Chancellor of England in 1872. He was elevated to an earldom in 1883. (2)
