Signed Gyokusen and Miwa, Edo Period (Late 18th Century)
Both katabori, stained ivory; the first a very powerful compact model of a tiger resting on its haunches, its forelegs slightly raised, its tail curled around its left side and under its head, its mouth slightly open, the eyes inlaid in dark horn, the hairwork very boldly incised and stained, two himotoshi formed by, respectively, the tail and the right legs, signed with incised and stained characters on an oval reserve on the tiger's belly Miwa, late 18th century; the second a lively group of shishi and cub, the himotoshi redrilled, signed with incised and stained characters on a rectangular plaque Gyokusen, late 18th century
