LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY, BLUE CROSSED SWORDS MARKS, INCISED D.94 AND D.95, IMPRESSED 48 AND 34, PAINTED 2 AND 74, RESPECTIVELY, AFTER THE MODELS BY M.V. ACIER AND J.C. SCHÖNHEIT
Modelled as either a seated maiden gathering flowers or playing the lute, attended by either a gentleman looking at a watch or offering flowers and a child either picking apples or with a floral crown, on a stepped rocky oval base applied with ribbon-tied laurel

Lot Essay

Cf. Clarke, p.23 and 62, pl. 17 and 18 for line drawings and a discussion of these groups, wherein Clarke notes that in 1781, nine years after it was originally modelled, the apple-pickers mould had to be replaced, evidence of its popularity at the time.
