These 'Roman' or 'Pompeian' tripod candlesticks were inspired by bronze antiquities displayed in the British Museum. A pair of candlesticks similar to the present pair, by Storr & Mortimer of 1823, may be seen in Vanessa Brett, The Sotheby's Directory of Silver, p.276, no.1279.
