With skeletonized three quarter plate double barrel nickel-finished lever movement, 28 jewels, the three-armed one minute tourbillon carriage with monometallic balance, exposed through a clear back and a window in the dial, the engine-turned 18K white gold dial with applied white gold Roman and dagger numerals, white gold dauphine hands, arch-shaped up and down indicator, the tourbillon window calibrated for constant seconds indicated by a white gold hand attached to the tourbillon carriage, the heavy circular case with glazed back, together with a platinum Vacheron & Constantin buckle, Vacheron & Constantin Certificate of Origin, information about the tourbillon movement, original fitted wooden presentation box and outer packaging, case, dial and movement signed

Lot Essay

This model was produced in a limited edition of 300 pieces, mostly in yellow gold and only very few in platinum.

The "tourbillon" was invented in 1795 by the famous watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet. Its purpose was, he wrote, "to remove through compensation the errors due to positional differences in the centers of gravity".
