Several ceramic examples of 'twin fish' vases of a comparable form are known from the Tang dynasty onwards, such as a sancai 'twin fish' vase preserved in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, inv. no. C.88-1939. The auspicious 'twin fish'-form vase was later translated into bronze prototypes, as we can see with our vase. Also see a very similar gold and silver-inlaid bronze 'twin-fish' vase dated from the 17th century and of the same size sold at Christie's London, South Kensington, 11 May 2016, lot 173.
