VERDI, Giuseppe (1813-1901). Autograph letter signed to a Signor Castignani, St Agata, 15 May 1887, thanking the recipient for troubling himself about his cooks, giving instructions for interviewing two and begging Castignani not to tell anyone that he is coming to Piacenza otherwise he will have no peace, 1½ pages, octavo
Castignani appears to have been another man employed by Verdi to handle some of his domestic affairs. Nearly twenty years after the letters to Maloberti, Verdi is still concerned with obtaining a good cook.
The letter is published in George Martin, Aspects of Verdi, Robson Books, 1989, pp.243-4
