VERDI, Giuseppe (1813-1901). Autograph letter signed to Generale Corvetto, Genova, 12 February 1890, in which Verdi intervenes on behalf of a young officer, with manuscript note in pencil to the effect that the matter is being looked into, 2 pages, octavo, with autograph envelope.

Verdi writes to General Corvetto in Naples to intercede for a young officer who wished to be transferred to Parma to be near his aged mother who is completely dependent on him. The note states that if agreed the transfer is to be made forthwith.

The letter is a fine example of Verdi's humane instincts and the interest he took in the families of his paese.
