Woodcut initials, decorations, illustrations, some full-page, and two folding plates (tear in Kk2, 3L2 & 3 becoming loose, a little discolouration). Contemporary vellum, some leaves uncut (a trifle soiled). Provenance: Metropolitan Museum of Art, W. Gedney Beatty bequest (book-label and duplicate stamp).
A reprint of the Venice quarto edition of 1567 with some corrections and additions. The title-page border of the 1584 edition is used here as a divisional title. The dedication by de Vecchi is dated 1629 and the preface which appears under his name is the same as the one signed by Francesco de Franceschi Sanese in both the 1567 and 1584 editions. Fowler 416.
