Lot Essay

The present owner writes about this photograph, 'Around 1970, while a student at Harvard, I had the privilege of visiting Walker Evans at his home in Old Lyme, Connecticut. The only work of Walker's that I saw displayed in his home were a number of color polaroids...And there was this Floyd Burroughs print, mounted on board, propped up against a wall on a table. Some weeks later, I learned that Walker, under some financial needs, would be interested in selling some work. I requested the Floyd Burroughs print seen in my recent visit to be included in any deal.

'Walker was very particular that his prints be presented in a certain frame with an unobtrusive thin edged steel border. This print has remained in the same frame.
