"The British writer of thrillers was enormously popular and prolific - 175 books, 15 plays, and the screenplay (as co-author) for the Fay Wray King Kong. He lived the good life of country houses and racing stables until bankrupted by an all-too-effective promotion scheme - an offer of #500 to anyone who solved the mystery of The Four Just Men"--W.M.
