Lot Essay

Mr Sheepshanks was the brother of the distinguished astronomer Richard Sheepshanks who was Sickert's maternal grandfather. The present work is a study for Mr Sheepshanks' House, Camden Crescent, Bath (Durban Museum and Art Gallery, see W. Baron, Sickert, London, 1973, p. 373, no. 374).
